Q: What should I do if my daughter will be absent?

A: Call the director and leave her a message on her voicemail or e-mail her.  You need to take care of this before the drill team class period.  6th period (JV) begins at 12:46pm and 7th period (Varsity) begins at 1:40pm.

Q: What happens if my daughter is absent?

A: If you call on time, she will not receive demerits.  She must have a doctors' note to remain in the dance.  However, depending on the dance we are working on, she may still be removed with a doctor's note.  It is up to the director's discretion.

Q: What happens if I forget to call or e-mail about my daughter's absence?

A: She will receive 5 demerits and be taken out of the dance.

Q: How many demerits will cause my daughter to be removed from the team?

A: Ten permanent demerits.

Q: Is there a Charm booster club?

A: At this time, there is not a Charm booster club.

Q: As a parent, how can I get involved?

A: E-mail the director and let her know you are interested.  We need parents to chaperone games, ride buses, help out at contests, chaperone trips, etc.  The best way to get involved is help your daughter respect and follow all the rules.  Help her stay on top of her grades so that she will always remain eligible and able to participate.

Q: If my daughter makes the team, is she guaranteed a performance spot?

A: No.  The director will make decisions based on what is best for that routine and the team.

Q: What are "permanent" demerits?

A: Girls may earn merits ahead of time to cancel out demerits they receive for minor offenses such as wearing the wrong attire.  They may earn merits throughout the year but once their merits run out, any demerits they receive become permanent and may not be "worked off" or removed.  Some merits, such as disrespect, are instantly permanent regardless of merit count.  Any Charm who received a disrespect demerit may not attend Banquet.  Girls with 8 or more permanent demerits will also not be allowed to attend Banquet.

Q: Is it possible to be involved in drill team and other activities?

A:  Some activities are possible but as the students get older in high school, it does become more of a problem.  Membership in choir and art is usually not much of a problem but activities such as volleyball and softball would be impossible as the practice times conflict.  Feel free to e-mail the director about any activities you may have a question about.

Q: I have a discrepancy with a director's decision.  How do I handle this?

A: Follow the chain of command in the Constitution.  If a Charm has a discrepancy, she must first meet with the director to discuss the problem.  If the problem still arises, the parent may e-mail or call the director.  The next step is a conference with the director, Charm and parent.  If the matter is still unsettled, a conference can be set up with the AP in charge of Charms, the parent and director.  Mrs. Bruton is the AP in charge of Charms.  It is unnecessary to contact the AP if you have not first spoken with the director.

Q: What should I do if I have a question about a rule or procedure?

A: Refer to your Charm Constitution.  The purpose of the Constitution is to remain fair and consistent.  The Constitution is reviewed annually by the director and Principal and you signed it agreeing to abide by all the rules and requirements.

Q: What should I do if my daughter is failing another class and needs tutoring but there is a practice scheduled?

A: Speak to the director and let her know.  She will try to work with you to help your daughter receive the tutoring she needs to pass.  It is imperative that you take care of this sooner than later.  Waiting until the last minute at the end of the six weeks may result in ineligibility.
